To Engineering Physics and Beyond is back! On Wednesday November 13th 2024 some alumni of Engineering Physics will talk about their career path and the choices they made along the way. Afterwards, you can ask all your questions during the panel discussion. We end the evening with a reception with free drinks and snacks!

NEW! Since this year, there will be an info-session regarding Erasmus! Are you in your 3rd Bachelor or 1st Master and would like to study abroad next year? Then don’t miss out!
And in classroom 1.1, at 18:45, an info session regarding the changes to the evaluation of the master thesis will take place. This info session is given by Professor Jeroen Beeckman.

To attend this event, join through this link.

Who are we expecting?

Bart Desoete – OIP:
Bart Desoete obtained a Master in Engineering Physics and a PhD in Electronic Engineering at the University of Ghent. He started his industrial career at ON Semiconductor, where he was involved in semiconductor technology development. After that he has been working for several Belgian companies active in Space industry, namely at QinetiQ Space, Antwerp Space and OIP. Throughout his career he has had engineering, project management and business development roles. Currently he is responsible for business development in the Space department of OIP, a company specialized in state-of-the-art electro-optical systems.

Sam Werquin – ArcelorMittal:
Sam Werquin started a PhD on nanophotonic biosensors for DNA-detection after his studies Engineering Physics. Nowadays he works at ArcelorMittal as Process Model Specialist.

Kenny Knecht – Robovision:
Kenny Knecht currently works as Lead Architect at Robovision. After finishing his Engineering Physics studies, he did a PhD on Particle Physics. He has previously worked for Applied maths and ONTOFORCE.

An Ghysels – UGent:
Prof. dr. ir. An Ghysels obtained her Master in Engineering Sciences – Applied Physics in 2005 at Ghent University, where she studied abroad during an Erasmus year in Grenoble (France). During her PhD at Ghent University (2009), she developed computational methodologies for molecular vibrational modes calculations with applications to chemical kinetics. In collaboration with the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda (MD, USA), her methods were extended to biomolecular systems, such as the large-scale vibrational motions of proteins. During a post-doc year at the University of California – Berkeley (CA, USA), her work led to thermodynamic modeling of flexible porous materials. She was assistant professor (2015) in the Center for Molecular Modeling at Ghent University, where she studied materials and biological systems at the molecular scale. She joined the BioMMedA research group at the same university (2020), with a focus on membrane simulations and precision medicine.
